We’ve been having some behind-the-scenes troubles with picture messages getting through to Verizon users this month. It appeared as if we were inadvertently being blocked by Verizon, but we’ve figured out a workaround, and quickly put it into place tonight.
We’re extremely sorry for any problems you might have experienced with the site or the iPhone app this month when trying to send picture messages to Verizon. If you have any further problems, feel free to comment in this post or contact us through our contact page.

We felt it was necessary to create an article explaining why we decided to create PixDrop’s picture messaging iOS app and give an overview of all the (crappy and expensive) picture messaging apps that were out there in the App Store before PixDrop.

Earlier this week we submitted our PixDrop mobile app for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad to Apple for inclusion in the iTunes App Store! We’re excited about putting out our first mobile app and we hope that users will find the app to be a valuable tool for picture messaging for free when traveling abroad, when cell service is not available, or from the iPod Touch and the iPad, which do not include picture messaging!
Cross your fingers for a smooth approval process from Apple!

Today AT&T has finally, officially, rolled out MMS picture messaging for all iPhone users in the US. The downside to this is that you need to upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1 to take advantage of the MMS update. Once you’ve upgraded to iPhone OS 3.1 you’re iPhone will be able to do something it should have been able to do a long time ago…..receive free picture messages from PixDrop!
Now you can send you’re friends your favorite “epic fail” or “lolcats” photos for free from PixDrop.com, even if they have an iPhone! Enjoy!

Two years ago today PixDrop was launched from a tiny room with the idea that people around the United States would love to be able to send pictures from their computer to their cell phone or their friends cell phone. While smartphones like the BlackBerry and the iPhone have made it easier to save images onto your phone from the web, there is still a growing need and desire to send picture messages for free and avoid carrier fees, or web data fees.
We’re proud of the love all you users have shown us. We’re also proud of all of the love that Google has shown us over the past two years – almost 75% of our traffic comes from the big G now!
Be sure to check back later this summer as AT&T rolls out its picture messaging service for iPhone users, so you can finally send all those iPhone users a free picture message from the web!
Thanks for another great year!

Today is PixDrop.com’s one year anniversary and we’re really, REALLY excited about what we’ve seen in the first year! We’ve already sent over 100,000 picture messages for free to Sprint, AT&T and Verizon Wireless customers, expanded our service to include a free picture uploader tool which worldwide support, added numerous free picture messaging articles and now we’re finishing up work on our next big feature!
Thanks to everyone who’s used PixDrop and to any site who’s linked to PixDrop and contributed to our success!

We just wanted to let all our users know that we’ve reached the 100,000 picture messages mark! That’s right, we’ve sent over 100,000 picture messages for free now! Currently we’re actually sending over 23,000 messages a month, so we’re on track to reach the quarter-million free picture message mark before the end of 2008!
We’re really excited about this, as well as the response to our free picture message uploader, still currently in public beta states. We have some other great features we’re working on that are down the road this summer, so keep checking PixDrop.com, or this blog, for the latest features!
Thanks so much for your continued support of PixDrop!
